KENGEN FOUNDATION ‐ BACKGROUND KenGen Foundation is a corporate trust formally established in December 2012 by KenGen Plc for the purpose of public charitable activities. As a nonprofit organisation under the sole custodianship and management of KenGen Plc, it serves as the philanthropic arm of the company to implement and upscale the company’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) community projects.
The Foundation has a strong governance structure, with its operations run by a Managing Trustee, while a Board of Trustees oversees its operational strategies, performance and impact. Its core thematic areas are Water and Sanitation, Environment and Education, which are managed by a team of five staff. KenGen Foundation is seeking to recruit a Senior Fundraising Officer to manage its growing fundraising department.

WORKING AREA: KenGen Plaza II building, next to Stima Plaza, Parklands ‐ Nairobi.
JOB PURPOSE: The Senior Fundraising Officer will report to the Foundation’s Managing Trustee andis expected to work on helping the Foundation attain financial sustainability by building its seven revenue streams, namely: Strategic Partnerships; Company Annual Allocation; Fundraising Events; Social Enterprises; Endowment Fund; Employee Giver Initiative; and Grants.

KEY DUTIES: The Senior Fundraising Officer will have the following duties and responsibilities:
 Research and apply for relevant grant funding and calls for proposals
 Engage prospective donors with an aim to raise funds
 Conceptualize and organize fundraising events
 Responsible for engaging potential financiers for the Foundation’s social enterprises and serve as the Secretary of the enterprises’ various working committees
 Prepare donor progress reports on projects’ status and funds’ utilization to meet stipulated funding conditions.
 In liaison with the Foundation’s Senior Program’s Officer, ensure that projects funded by donors achieve stated outputs and outcomes
 Responsible for recruitment and awareness campaigns of the Foundation’s Employee Giver Initiative among Company staff
 Responsible for organizing activities among the various KenGen power stations for staff enrolled in the Employee Giver Initiative.
 Prepare project proposals for funding in line with the Foundation’s needs and strategic direction
 Prepare annual disbursement requests for existing donors as well as annual financial accounting reports
 Research and stay abreast of fundraising trends, opportunities and potential partners relevant for the Foundation.
 Responsible for Foundation investment portfolio management in line with the best financial practice.


 A Bachelors’ degree in social development studies.
 Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant field
 A masters’ degree in related field will be an added advantage.
 A minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising and project development and management, particularly in community based socio‐economic enhancement programs.
 Proficient proposal writer with proven success in institutional funds mobilization and grant making
 Proven experience in managing projects from proposal writing to donor engagement to budget preparation and MoU drafting, and implementation reporting.
 Strong numeracy skills
 Excellent communication skills ‐ proposal writing, preparation and delivery of PowerPoint presentations.
 Excellent interpersonal skills ‐ team‐work, diplomacy, accountable and integrity.
 Proven networking skills.
 Proven experience in grant making and donor relations with solid contacts with international trusts and foundations.
 Ability to work in a team environment and to contribute to other Foundation activities towards success of common objective.
